Fairphone CEO: Two new products coming out in 2026

Nope, there was no difference, just a second batch.

Also nope, only camera module was changed and upgradeble. The ‘better’ audio was nothing real.

Selling a new model with more RAM and a better CPU(?) is something completely different.

Well, I’m a customer of Fairphone since they crowdfunded the FP1, I think I can have my thought on this company and the values they once represented.

The FP2 had a Camera Upgrade. So this Cycle is not new and everyone is reponsible to not buy if not needed, thats not FPs responsibility to prevent.

Curious if it will have USB-3…

I’ve done that with my ancient Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 after loading it with lineage, it now runs faster, admittedly as a e-book reader for the most part but I did to my surprise discover it can do 720p h265 without stuttering.

Unfortunately I need google services for banking on my modern device but adb user-disable hides most of the clutter (and no I don’t have the time to fight root detection and play integrity checks)

The “How dare they play to the audience now? I thought we were avantgarde forever!” sentiment is as predictable as the upcoming “Oh no! How can there be better [tech] just after I bought [tech]? I was robbed!” .

We all have our - diverse - expectations.

But I fully embrace what @Incanus mentioned, meaning creating the space for such even if not necessarily sharing the sentiment

PS. Waiting for images of patchworked coloured FP6..

Interesting choice to upgrade RAM in an era of RAM shortage. Would be cool if they also bump other specs, such as the USB port.

I get your point. However, I think there would be a lot more “pressure” if they called the new product FP7, for example.

In any case, we should wait for the official announcement to see exactly what it’s all about. After all, the title of this thread mentions two new products, and so far we’ve only “guessed” at one.

Coming out with a 12GB RAM version is especially unexpected after the email I received today, that the FP6 will be going back up in price, to the original 599€.

The “Gen. 6+” item does not appear any more in the list of products of Where to buy | Fairphone

I thought that FP6+ was a bit early, after only one year.
After all, it’s what happened to the FP3(+).
But to reiterate, I really hope they can present a FP6 capable of Desktop Mode or one with any other current hardware limitations of the FP6 fixed.
although, 12GB RAM instead of 8? Did they have a pre-defined stock of RAM at 2022 prices locked in? Very strange indeed, I didn’t figure RAM size as a really important factor (even though I remember it was talked about at the time).
Well, we’ll stew in our questions, but I guess that next week, it’s all going to unravel

Next week? I still haven’t understood when they will announce the new devices/products :stuck_out_tongue:

An bluetooth mobile speaker?

Don’t think so… but maybe…

I guess we will discover the first one the 4th of August if i understood correctly… then the next one in August 12 (I guess that will be the fairphone Gen 6+)

Just realised (a bit old news I admit) that FP CEO suggested two launches (instead of one of two products).. or am I misreading that?

Earlier i wished for a powerbank as a new product.

Now i wish for a better microphone for the fp6.

It is impossible to record a concert without enormous distortion. All other phones i had before and all the phones that are owned by people around me do this fine.

Sorry for the rant.

If only all rants were as civilized as yours … :+1:

I had the opposite experience, never had a phone that can handle a concert in the front rows, so I switched to another camera app that has unprocessed mic settings for record.

I still don’t understand what the 4 and 12 mean, but I’m pretty sure what they are teasing at from their posts on Instagram is: a blue phone, USA release, 12GB variant.

I wish for a phone or a module for existing fairphones where the microphone is part of a module that can be changed. Ideally all outward facing components should be replacable. Only the microphones are missing, but the most important one is the one on the bottom near the charge port. Right now I have to resort to speakerphone calls, which is less than ideal. (Yes, I have headsets, but not always on hand due to various circumstances.)

Wishful thinking though.

Maybe USB4… Even if I doubt.

A big lack from FP6 compared to FP5, USB3 apart, but related to, is the cut of HDMI over USB-C.
