Fairphone Camera / Google Lens

I have a Fairphone 6 with /e/OS.

After the latest update, the Fairphone Camera app was integrated.

In this app, I discovered Google Lens.

What does this mean for data privacy?

  1. Are images (or parts of images) sent to Google’s servers for analysis?
  2. Does Google store or use this data to improve its AI services.
  3. Does it mean that image content leaves the /e/OS ecosystem, which is designed to be free from Google and privacy-invasive services?

How it works

Privacy

I have no idea, I hope not.
Looking at it, is looks like it not able to ‘start’ or ‘be enabled’. So best case the eos tweaks are preventing the fully loading of the Lens feature resulting in it not able to start. (with is best case if we can’t turn the feature of in the settings.)

Assuming that the grey icon of the Lens feature means it turn off/ not loaded. (instead of the other icons that are the lime green)
