Fairphone 6 / Fairphone OS Android 16 HUGE install size

I just got my new Fairphone 6 and started looking around, disabling some of the Google junk, etc. But when I looked into the setting’s app’s Storage tab, I realized that “Android 16” takes up 42GB of space! Now this can’t be correct, not even Windows is that large on a fresh install.

I decided to flash the operating system, which did not work, but in the process it did wipe the whole phone a few times. Now it says 32GB in the “Android 16” tab, and ~2GB of Temporary System Files.

Now what I am asking myself is:

  1. What is Fairphone OS doing that Android 16 takes up this large amount of space? According to the internet, an Android 16 clean install is 10-20GB large.
  2. Why does resetting a factory new phone (where I already deleted/disabled things) make a difference of system size in ~10GB?

Does anyone know more about this?

This is interesting. I just checked my own 6 and it also shows 32 GB of storage use for Android 16. I compared this against a Nothing Phone 3a Pro which I would argue is in many ways a rather similar phone and Android 16 takes up 16 GB.
