Fairphone 6 ergonomics review

Hi,

After thinking about it for few years now, i’ve made the last step and recently bought a fairphone 6.

I’m mostly happy about it, all that implies ecologically, politically and i’ve installed e/os to finally get rid of google.

I’m juste annoyed about one thing, important one. That’s my first phone with biometrics, and i had the habit of using my phone with one hand.

The fact is that i’m left handed.

To resume :

  • it’s highly unconfortable to access the power biometric button with either the index or major finger while holding the phone with the same hand.
  • It’s evenly harder to push this button, and i’m constantly pressing volume button by mistaje while trying to cet the power one… triggering shortcuts i don’t want.

I don’t know how to describe where the issue is coming from, is it :

  • that volume buttons are to high ?
  • The bio sensor could be un the back for equity between right & left handed ?
  • Maybe the edge of the case behind the phone, preventing firstly the tip of the finger to bend and the ability to slide the phone to a better position. Would it be better if this edge would be in front protecting the screen instead ?

For now it has been only one week, and it’s pretty anoying, maybe i’m gonna get used to it :man_shrugging:

Is there any left handed experiencing the same issues ?

Thx for your work & your concern

(Not a lefthander here) If you haven’t seen it yet, you can at least disable the screenshot shortcut in System > Gestures.

Hello
Not a left hand user nor FP6 user so please take it or leave it:)

My FP5 is slightly wider than FP6 and I am struggling with one hand usage. All my cases have rings or popsockets. I miss an easy solution of shrinking the size of the phone that I enjoyed on some of my older devices (never learnt to use Cursor App properly).

I use face unlock and find it handy sometimes. Plus recently I have discovered the Niagara launcher and it helps to be able to have a line of apps.

Hi, I’m not left handed, but sometimes I use my phone with the left hand.

Because of that, I’ve setup my left finger to unlock the phone too, and it works very well without pressing the volume buttons.

I have the original Fairphone case, and have a medium large hands (size 9 or L of glove), maybe you’re hands are smaller than mine, and so it’s harder for you to reach the fingerprint from underneath?
