Fairphone 6 - Android Auto not working

Hi folks.

So i got my Fairphone (6) yesterday. Super happy with the phone in general. I know what I’m getting in to as this is my second Fairphone throughout the years.

But I plugged it in via USB to my car (Nissan Leaf 2020 model) and Android Auto doesn’t work.

My previous phone (Pixel 6) worked with the same cable, but for safe measure i tried another cable, and it still does not work there.

Deleted android auto, turned on USB debugging, reinstalled Android Auto, connected it to my PC and selected “file transfer”. Retried in my car, and suddenly it worked! Then fast forward 3 hours, new car trip, now it doesn’t work. And the procedure that worked before, now does not.

This is kind of tiering, and a bummer when I’m otherwise very happy with my device. But i rely on Android Auto a lot.

Does anyone have a way of getting this to work reliably? I’ve read all the treads regarding this here on the forum. But they never seem to have a permanent or reliable solution unfortunately.

Best regards.

I used 2-3 times Android Auto already and had only 1 tiny issue this far (no audio or key inputs where registered, only touchscreen worked). But i didn’t had to enable USB debugging.

Please also report to Fairphone directly.

Same issue here. Trying to connect with my Toyota: Bluetooth connects and I can play music and make calls, but Android auto keeps on “loading” without ever doing it.
Tried deleting the devices from the car, uninstalling Android auto from my mobile, plugging and unplugging the cable… Nothing works.
Very annoying.

Hello @Logain

For my part, I used my Fairphone 6 with Android Auto these last 3/4 days without any big issue (just a reboot one time).
I use same cable as my Fairphone 4 or my old Galaxy S7 Edge.
My car is a Peugeot 308 GTi 2017.

Do you apply all software updates about Android Auto on your phone ? (lot of Google things)

Hi mate (@alexis)!

Well yes, i have updated everything and restarted (several times).

A strange thing is that some mornings, when the phone is fully charged, Android Auto works for a moment. But as soon i unplug it does not work if i try again. And during the day, when the phone has a bit less battery, it has never worked.

I have extracted a full bug report from dev options, both from when it worked and when it does not. So as soon as i can make sense of them, and compare, i can send them.

@nooble How do i send this issue directly to Fairphone? I would love to do that

I have the Same issue with Android Auto and Fairphone 6 in my Nissan leaf (2018)
With my old Phone (Galaxy Fold 2) It just works also with same cable.
No solution found yet
Hope there will be a fix soon

OK in my Case
Nissan Leaf (2018)
Galaxy Fold 2 → Fairphone 6

I figured out that its Most likely because of the cable. I borrowed another cable from a friend and Android Auto started to work directly without any issues multiple times in a row when I reconnected.

According to other sources online older phones allow Higher Drops in Data Transfer Rates, means the reason might be that fp6 is Just blocking the Connection from the beginning as Transfer rate is to Low.
I assume a better cable e.g. the one in Fairphone Store which is explicetely marked for charging and Data Transfer or an equivalent from another Brand e.g. with USB 3.2 and clear indication that Android Auto ist supported might do the Trick for me.
I ordered one online and will Update here next week if that fixed it Long Term.

I only osed it once to try it. No issues at all.
FP6.QREL.15.91.0 firmware / Mercedes EQV

Update: I managed to connect, not sure how.
Went back to the car in the morning, did a reset of the FP connection, re-started the process again. It worked this time, and it has worked fine since then.
Why? Mystery.

Hey mate :slightly_smiling_face: Thank you so much for your reply. I’m going to order a cable directly from the FP store as soon as everything I want from there is in stock :+1:

No Problem
As I prefer a very short cable in the car i just ordered mine on Amazon, in the technical Specs they listed 10gb Transfer rate, USB 3.2 and Support for Android Auto which i can confirm is true.
As far as I see the Long Life charging and Data cable from FP Store should Work too and should be even Higher in Transfer rate compared to the one I ordered.
It’s Just usb-c on both ends, but comes with an Adapter (at least in my Leaf i would have to use It with Adapter, not Sure maybe in never leafs Its different)
If using with Adapter does Not feel clunky for you and the length is fine Just take it, Hope it will Work fine for you.

Hello, I’ve tried a lot of things too. I’ve installed all the updates and tried different Android Auto versions. It can’t be my cables because three other phones work.
I hope there’s a fix for this soon, because I’m at my wit’s end.

Welcome to the community forum

Just because other phones work doesn’t mean the cable is OK. Tolerances have changed over time, so it’s worth trying with a recently certified cable.
Please read all posts above, thanks.

Even though I don’t think it’s the cable, I ordered a new one. I’ve tried all the other tips from this forum several times without success. I’ll get back to you after testing the new cable.

SUNGUY USB C Kabel, 30CM USB Typ C auf USB 3.1 Gen 2 Kabel, 10Gbps Datenkabel und Ladekabel Kompatibel mit iPhone 16/15 Pro Max, Galaxy S24, Google Pixel, Android Auto, Huawei P40/P30-Grau
Unfortunately, the problems are exactly the same with the new cable. No function at all in the VW Passat B8.
Any other ideas not mentioned in this thread?
