Fairphone 5 USB port not working after last OS patch (now FP5.VT2X.C.107.20260609)

Hi,
it might be coincidence but . . .
I have no recollection of the USB data transfer working since the last OS patch. (OK the patch was out several weeks ago but I deferred installing it for some time).
Other posts seem to suggest a a full reboot, then a safe mode check or system refresh is required
So

  1. a safe mode check did nothing. Phone charges but the USB port will not transfer data (Laptop device manager does not see the device) using a cable that works with an LG V20 phone
  2. how to do a full reboot (why is this not the same as restarting the phone or simply removing the battery and replacing it - which does not help)
3, how do to a system refresh and is this different from a factory reset and anyway and Im really nervous this will lose all my data.
or maybe its a busted USB port?

Hello and welcome to the community.

I will suggest some other things.

  • full backup (if you decide to send your phone for repair the phone will be erased. With no data transfer options, the backup might take some time, it’s better to do it now
  • if you feel confident with opening your phone, check the USB port for any damage and clean it thoroughly
  • you may also check the cable connectors that are on display (you need to unscrew the display and check the other cable)

Asfaik the current policy of the company is that either you send it for repair or purchase a spare part on your own, on your own risk. Still it’s up to you whether you want to double check the option for self-repair. Perhaps run a diagnosis through the self-repair portal first? Or internal testing via the app?
