Fairphone 5 microphone rumble noise

Since a few days my microphone does not record anything. It is just a rumble noise. I’m able to make phone calls with my bluetooth headphones. A call with bluetooth headphones over Signal works but recording a message does not work neither with bluetooth headphones nor with the microphone. You can listen to the records from Signal. Is this a software or hardware problem. I did a factory reset and the problem stayed the same.
Thanks
Alex

Edit: I use /e/OS.

Update: the microphone works in speaker mode with the phone app and when recording video. And I found

hello and welcome to the community forum

could you run audio troubleshooting via MyFairphone App and share the result?

I forgot to say that I’m using /e/OS. As far as I know, there is no fairphone app for /e/OS.

It looks like this problem is known. I found a couple of forums that discussed this problem.

And as far as I have read, this problem is not solved and it appears with /e/OS and Android. I guess I’m gonna switch back to Android and send the phone back. It’s a shame because I really liked the idea of the Fairphone and a private OS.

Update: I just booted into safe mode and the problem is the same. No mic during phone calls but on speaker it works. And I recognized something else. If I phone someone and talk regularly I can hear myself through the ear piece. It seems like the microphone works but the sound is routed to the ear piece.

Update:
I switched back to Android 15 and the problem remains. I replaced the bottom part of the phone but nothing changed. In the hardware check mic 1 (bottom) doesn’t work, mic 2 (top) and mic 3 (left side) work great. while calling someone switching from speaker to mic doesn’t work either. I made an audio_policy dump and my AI says:
”Your dump for mic 1 shows that the system sees the built‑in (bottom) microphone, but no input stream is actually opened (curOpenCount: 0 for the “primary input” mix‑port).
That means the test app never succeeded in acquiring the mic – most likely because of a permission / source mismatch rather than a hardware fault.”
It’s impossible to contact Fairphone. The contact page redirects me to a troubleshooting page for the Fairphone headphones. As of yet I did not find an e-mail address to contact Fairphone directly. I’m frustrated.

Hi
there was one dead link reported today.
Other than that, everything seems to be working smoothly.
In order to get help from the CS, you need to use the self-repair portal

Edited to say that microphones are located on the motherboard so changing the loudspeaker should not impact them (at least not directly).

I did this, too. After entering my IMEI I got the following reply:

The product you have selected does not match the IMEI/serial number you have entered. Please revert back to the troubleshooting section and choose the correct product. If you are unable to determine which product you have or you have installed a different operating system, reach out to our Customer Support Team.
Product IMEI belongs to: FP5 Refurbished

And the Customer Support Page sends me to this page: Fairbuds and Fairbuds XL in the US: Support and Availability

Hi
sorry to hear that.

It looks like a different issue.

The wrong IMEI might make getting support very difficult.
Are all IMEI numbers you were able to identify the same and cannot be accepted? Where did you buy your phone from? Have you successfully registered for the extended warranty?

You may try reaching CS directly tomorrow via chat or - as a workaround - submit a ticket using the same form but choosing something else (then you will not be redirected to the repair portal).

This dead link has been reported today.

I bought the phone directly from Fairphone as a refurbished phone. The IMEI (both) are recognized as Fairphone 5 refurbished. But that’s it, dead end. No link to another page or anything. Isn’t a refurbished Fairphone still a Fairphone?
I will try the CS chat tomorrow. I have read that there is a human between 10 and 12 h. The AI started talking french to me for some reason.
