Fairphone 5 does not connect to Computer

Dear All,

I purchased the FP 5 but I am not able to connect it with my PC. Obviously I am not a tech expert but wondering why every Samsung I had before can do it without an issue. The recommendation to use the pull down menue does not work because it does not show that the phone is loading (while it is loading).

Going to Menue I did not see any other option.

Sorry for this stupid question (;< and thanks for some help… Best Regards Bernd

Swipe down from the top.
Do you see ‘Charging connected device via USB’?
Tap on it and choose what you want.

If you need Developers options, then go to the app Settings, About phone and tap 7 times at Build number.
Then you can find Developers options in the app Settings, System.

Dear Lidwien,

thanks a lot for your help.

I was able to activate the developes option, but did not the next stept what to do.

Sorry do you have an advice there?

Have a nice day.

Bernd

Connect your phone with a cable to the computer.
Make sure your screen on the phone is active.
Swipe down on your phone
Tap on “Chargingg this device via USB”
and choose what connection you want.

Appologize again. The step in between I did not found after I activate the developer option.

When scrolling down I did not see the tap charging this device via USB :frowning:

Perhaps you have to actived the screen first.
Go to any app. And then swipe down.

That’s what it should look like.

If you don’t see the “Android-System Gerät wird über USB aufgeladen” (I’m using German language), I could imagine two things

  • if you have many active notifications (like I usually do) the option is outside the visible screen area and you need to scroll down first (it is always the last notification)
  • I’m pretty sure there were reports by people who had USB cables that worked with other phones but not their Fairphone; so you might try with a different cable if you have one or try with a different USB port on the computer

Other than that: developer options are not necessary for a data connections. One can use those to autoselect the connection mode as a convenience feature (if you want to take the security risk that potentially means).

Not sure if that is relevant, but what operating system to you run on your computer?
