Fairphone 4 App Chooser ("Recents") not Working

Hey everyone,

the app chooser button (that square on the lower right corner of the screen) sometimes just stops working completely, this is making me unable to close apps.

Usually this can be resolved with rebooting the phone (which is an unacceptable way to solve this btw.) but today three reboots did not work, needed to shut the phone down completely and start it again, only then did it work.

By the way, why are the reboots and shutdown plus boot so fast? The phone does not get completely restarted, as the apps are still active even after rebooting or even after shutdown plus boot.

What is this? Why does FP4 get progressively worse as a product?

If this and the other bug related to aggressive app closing continues, I fear the company has lost me as a customer.

I wanted this to work, really did as your core principles are really great. But if I can’t reliably use my phone, then your core principles are worthless to me as an individual.

I’m sorry you seem to face an increaaing number of problems.
Still I recommend you contactsupport as this is a user forum and your complaints will rather not reach the necessary persons here.

I experienced this issue the other day on my FP3. A reboot resolved it successfully, but it is worrying to hear that it may become a frequent reoccurrence.

I’ve been having the same issue for a while now. Definitely months, maybe even years?

I thought it was because I’m using Olauncher instead of the default launcher but if others are having the same issue, maybe it’s a general problem. Switching launchers sometimes helps to temporarily fix the issue but not always. Reboot helps in general but there is no telling when it will appear again. Might be days or minutes. A fix for this issue would be very much appreciated as it can become quite annoying quite fast.

Hello Frederic and welcome to the forum.
I wanted to suggest you try and workthrough Fairphone’s troubleshooting online diagnosis procedure, if you haven’t done so already:

Also, I wonder what happens if you swap the order of the back and recent buttons in the navigation bar?

(In the Button navigation page which is down deep in the System - Gesture settings)

I’d have tried this when the problem appear to see if it might replace the need to reboot the phone.

May I encourage all contributors who experience a problem (and any who state that they don’t) to indicate your current OS version as shown in

Settings > About phone > Build number
(can be copied and pasted)

You can find the list of software updates here

Thanks!
