Fairphone 3 suddenly died

Here is a little background:
My fp3 is 4.5 years old and still had its original battery. Around 1.5 years ago I replaced the bottom module after plugging in a broken charger which destroyed my previous one (it smelled like burned plastic).
The last time I was able to use it I was out in ~ -7°C weather. I remember it having ~40% left. After ~10 minutes of not using the phone I got into a car and an additional 20 minutes later when I tried to turn it on it didn’t. Thinking there might be a battery issue I plugged it into a charger and after a while I was able to get it to boot but only for about 1-2 seconds. That was the last sign of life from my phone.
Because of the brief boot I ruled out sudden death and the -7°C weather and the battery’s age made me think the battery broke but its not showing any sign of life with the new one either.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Welcome to the Fairphone community.

Did you open the phone and checked for water ingress? Maybe the damage was caused by condensed water because of the big temperature difference from outside to inside.

Maybe a sudden death. I have to reflow my two FP3 from time to time using a preheater and hotair.

Perhaps there is a Fairphone Angel in your neighbourhood who has a Fairphone 3 (battery) so you can test your Fairphone 3.

I have already tested with my wife´s display. But wanted hers back ?!?!

What about the battery?
Does your phone starts or does it nothing?

So it worked with the display of her FP3?

Very interesting theory. I have already opened it once and found nothing but I’ll check again

I ruled out sudden death because of the brief boot attempt. Do you think that conclusion was premature?

That’s a great idea. I already have a new battery but I could definitely use the help

With the old one it attempted a brief boot once (which failed after 1-2 seconds) and from then on there was no sign of life from the phone. Not even with the new battery I ordered

I also had this behavior with one of my FP3. In most cases the memory module KMRP60014M lose contact to the main board because of possible bending. After a reflow everything works fine again.

There is this post oven reflow which explains the procedure in an oven.
