One more user here who finally understands it’s the problem of the Fairbuds, and not of something else.
It doesn’t work on either Mac or Fairphone 4! Both with Zoom and phone calls.

One more “I have the same problem” just to keep the thread alive. I’ve been monitoring this topic for a long time but only recently created an account on the forum. I’ve also been in touch with the support, which was not helpful.
I have ditched the Fairbuds because of many issues with them, not just the mic. Never buying anything from Fairphone again.
I just noticed there is a seemingly related problem tagged as resolved on the public issue tracker :
Distorted microphone audio quality.
The microphone produces a metallic, sharp, or hollow sound during calls.
We have identified a solution for this issue. If your microphone is affected, please contact our Customer Support team.
Is the problem finally identified, or was that always here ?
Well, another ‘me too’ reply. I have also always experienced this isssue since I have the Fairbuds: they are OK for listening, but unusable for calls/mic input. People always complain they hear me very badly, like the speech is being suppressed.
Following your message I noticed the “Distorted microphone audio quality.” issue on public issue tracker, and contacted support a few days ago but still haven’t got a reply.
But now there’s also a “Voice dropouts during calls.” issue that is currently under investigation.
TBF, I have pretty much given up on Fairbuds for mic/calls/voice input. But, let’s see if there’s the opportunity for a solid fix at some point. ![]()
The fairbuds I got came back from repair and still most people I called with said they cannot hear me in normal an quiet situations even though I wrote that in the inquiry as reason for the repair. Apparently they were reset or something but still the mic is as bad as it gets.
I got a stock android device Pixel Phone. Resetted all audio related settings and special features. It works a bit better with someone’s Fairphone. But still it’s so bad that no one wants to talk to me longer and have to ask every third sentence what I just said. Seems to filter out and distort sounds on the other end. Maybe a audio gate, compressionn that’s too strong or something. I don’t know …
So will there be an update coming for sure and guaranteed in the next week? Because at the moment it’s only good for listening to music and watching movies. Even that is questionable with the big sound delay they got.
Will fairphone fix their own product they last updated 2024 and still sell until this day!
Same here - worst thing is that it took me a year to understand it’s not just a passing problem, but doesn’t work at all!
Sorry for all the people I called with my Fairphone headphones.
I have reached out support about this, and, they haven’t still replied back. That’s what they suggest on their issues page.
Did you guys sent your Fairbuds for repair? And did the issue still persist?
I stopped using the Fairbuds mic entirely (they work only for listening, not reliable for calls/speech) because of this issue.
EDIT: Also, this one might be a duplicate of Fairbuds microphone cancels out my own voice - #45 by ImplicitDeny
