Fairbuds App Ver. 3.3 - Most settings doesn't work

I got an update of the Fairbuds app via the Google app store some days ago. It reads now Version 3.3 and shows the new green fairphone design. I had to pair my Fairbuds again beacuse my setting of the equalizer were gone. My experience now is that the app does not work in the most parts at all. When I have first connect my Fairbuds in the app, a screen opens showing the battery status (o.k.) and a volume control (works fine). The options “Main”, “Bass Boost” and “Flat” have no influence on the sound of the Fairbuds at all. The button Equalizer opens a next page with five possible adjusments. The adjustments of the frequenzies does not work, no change of the sound. If I close the app, the settings of the eqalizer are not saved. The app version before worked well with my FP 5. The app reads the fairbuds version as V65, which should be the latest one. What is going wrong with this app? Has someone else these experiences?

Thanks!

Hi, I don’t use Fairbuds so I cannot really verify but looking at the reviews in the Play Store, it seems you are not the only one.

Surprisingly I can only access those reviews on my phone, the web browser version limits me to Polish ones (?), but here there is a peek.

I included the older ones (prior to the update as some also mentioned issues with the equalizer)

I received new fairbuds in warranty and re-connected them to my phone. Also the fairbuds app has changed apparently, and with the update I cannot use the equalizer anymore. No matter what I change, it always sounds the same. Also, when I change the three pre-defined profiles, I cannot hear a difference.
Furthermore, if I force-close the app and reopen it, the equalizer is back to the flat setting. So it is definitely never stored somewhere…

I tried to disconnect the buds and re-paired them, but still no luck. Reseted the app as well, but also no difference…

Did I miss some button that I have to press, to save the equalizer settings?! With the old app and my old buds, it worked flawlessly… Unfortunately, I do not now if the buds are the issue or the new app

Hello and welcome to the community forum.
I have moved your post here as it seems to be matching this topic.

As mentioned above, I do not have Fairbuds but it looks to me as if the problem is indeed with the app.

Please report it using the official support channel.

Best

Oh, I’m sorry, I searched for “equalizer” before, but this thread did not show up, as it did not had it in the title.

I opened a support ticket now.

It is a pitty that the app is not on f-droid… there it would be easy to just downgrade it

Edit: found a version 2.0 APK : not only do I get more bands back but also does the equalizer work flawlessly. I guess I just don’t update to 3.3 :person_shrugging:

Where did you find this old version? On my FP6 version 3.3 of the app crashes every time…

There is something called the internet

It is not a perfect solution, as you would need to self-sign the APK, otherwise Google play will automatically update it…

I have found a solution to that issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/fairphone/comments/1qsyy1b/comment/o4bkxq6/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Current Fairbuds app 3.0.3 version is pretty much useless, as OP describes.

However, the previous 2.1 version works fine.

Here’s how to get it:

  1. Install Aurora Store: Aurora OSS / AuroraStore · GitLab
  2. Use Aurora Store’s device spoofing/usurpation to set your devices to Samsung Galaxy S20+ (may not be mandatory for everyone, but I had to do it on my Fairphone 5 running /e/OS)
  3. Search for the Fairbuds app
  4. Use the menu to manually download and install version code 54 (= app version 2.1). If it’s not available, make sure you followed step 2.
  5. In Aurora Store settings, add the Fairbuds app to the update blacklist so it doesn’t get updated
  6. In Aurora Store device spoofing/usurpation, set your device back to default

Thanks to jurf (Juraj Fiala) · GitHub for their help!

I also have this issue. EQ controls do nothing which I can hear. App version 3.3. Never used an earlier version.

Was there any response to the support case raised?

Was there any response to the support case raised?

I asked them twice: the first time when I got the fairbuds back from repair (2025-12-12). This question was silently ignored in the response, I got just three days later (which however, answered another question I had regarding the repair).

So far, also no response (except automated response 10 days after initial mail) from the support on the ticket that I opened after I was asked to do so, here by the community moderator (ticket open since 2025-12-15)

Also the same problem here:

Equalizer settings have no effect on the sound.

No matter if I try to use the presets “Main”, “Bass Boost”, “Flat” or if I try to use the 5-Band Equalizer.

I tried already the following to solve the problem:

  • removed the pairing and re-paired the Fairbuds
  • reset the Fairbuds by pressing the button at least 10 seconds until the LED flashes white and then closed the case for at least 5 seconds

Fairbuds Firmware version: V65

Android Fairbuds App version: 3.3

Update:

The EQ-Presets on the iOS App do have an effect:

“Main”, “Bass” and “Vocal” do change the sound.

The 5-Band-EQ doesen’t have any effect.

iOS App version: 3.0.2

There was now an update of the App to Version 3.4 - but it looks like it got even worse.

The equalizer does not even load most of the time:

But if it loads, it still does not work; The app seems to do nothing; battery levels are not shown, and so on… :frowning:

idk, but the old version was working fine! Why was this terrible update even necessary? To make the app prettier?!

@all kindly proceed the discussion about version 3.4 in the dedicated topic, thanks
