DNS over TLS/IPv6 issues- Apps don't load data over Wifi

Good morning everyone,
I was very pleased to read that /e/OS is now getting a fix for this, and I really hope it comes to Android 16 as well. I’ve tried all the tips shared here, but nothing really works; the problem returns after a short while.

I’ve tried the following in conjunction with my FritzBox 6670:

Different Wi-Fi versions (Wi-Fi 4, 6, 7) – no success
Tested different WPA versions and settings – no success
Disabling Wi-Fi frequencies (i.e., using only 5 GHz or only 2.4 GHz) – no success
Disabling DHCPv6 (for IPv6) and running only IPv4 – no success (see image)

Tried the function shown in the image – no success

Disabled Private DNS on the smartphone – no success

The only thing that actually works is disabling IPv6. At work, we have a Wi-Fi network that runs solely on IPv4, and I have absolutely no issues there. The annoying thing, however, is that if you have a Dual-Stack (DS) connection, things don’t work properly when you disable IPv6. That’s why I really hope the issue gets resolved quickly and reliably.

Nice to see /e/OS got it fixed, let’s hope that the fix does go round and implemented in Google Android for Fairphone 6(+).

(With the good news, I already chose to step away from Fairphone. Switched to a cheaper Samsung. I do hope for everyone a fix is near now)

New Fairphone 6+ owner and I absolutely love it. However, I’m running into the same issue as this thread mentions. I have about 4 to 5 applications that don’t work at all when I have my WiFi switched on. It’s definitely the same IPv6 problem.
I’ll be following this thread to find out and hope that there will be a solution soon. I have one application that it’s quite important (personal details, government issued, etc) for me to use and it actually gives me a connection error when the WiFi is switched on.
Thanks all in this thread for the temporary solutions, they are usable at least.

Fixed in:

I installed the update and after a first few tests it seems that it solved the problem.

2 hours in. Still working. No workarounds.

Super smooth like it should be

Very happy!

Fix confirmed and stable here as well. Thanks!

What a relief. Thanks FP

ENDLICH! DANKE!

Endlich kann ich das Handy wieder uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen

Hell yes, everything works like a charm now.
And just like that, the FP6+ has become my favourite phone I ever owned.
Thanks team!

Thank you for this update. Could you please release some kind of information regarding the IPv6 issue? It’s been half a year with close to 600 replies in the corresponding thread, and I guess I’m not the only one curious about the actual issue (and fix) behind this. Thank you!

I assume you refer to the technical part of the solution? I am also eager to hear that story.

But I was also more after the communication to users; this topic has been (re-)opened for that purpose: Communicating with the users - #154 by M2026 - waiting for feedback/opinions and FP response there on the communication.

You will be waiting forever…

Fixed apps timing out over Wi-Fi since Android 16, caused by an unreachable IPv6 resolver.

The changelog is probably all we get…

I’ve been following this thread from the beginning and it sure was frustrating. Now I am happy.

When deciding for the Fairphone I did not look for the very best but for the fairest and the most sustainable phone. (I spent more than for this phone than the three before it combined, btw.).

If the promise of sustainability and longevity of the phone holds, I’ll happily wait through this and also the next frustrating episode (hopefully not).

Thank you to company and team for trying to be better than the rest of the market. Keep it up!

Update from my side: the IPv6 fix in FP6.QREL.16.111.0.20260831102426 solved the original problem for me, apps load fine over wifi again. But since that update I have a new wifi problem that others here may run into as well.

In a mesh network (in my case FRITZ!Box 4040 with a wired FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX) the phone no longer roams to the stronger access point. It stays on the weaker one until wifi shows “Low quality”, switches to mobile data, and only reconnects to the better access point after the wifi connection drops completely.

If you notice your FP6 using mobile data at home while wifi is connected, this might be the same issue. It is discussed here: WLAN shows "Low quality" and switches to/uses Cellular Data, instead of disconnecting or Roaming to better AP

Please report it to Fairphone support if you have it too.

I created a new FP6 topic for you, please dont mix devices in the help category. The issue you link is abount the FP5
