De-configuring, muting, or uninstalling the preinstalled email app on E/os

I have a new FP6 with E/OS preinstalled. I first configured the preinstalled email client with my Gmail account. Then I decided I wanted to use another email app (Edison), downloaded and configured that. Thus, having configured two email apps with the same gmail account, I got duplicate notifications.

Now I want to stop receiving notifications from the pre-installed email app. But I don’t see how to do it. I tried to:

  • Deconfigure the pre-installed email app, by opening the account settings and deleting the account. It appears to succeed, but subsequently the account mysteriously re-appears.
  • Mute notifications: Can’t do; the option is grayed out
  • Deinstall the pre-installed email app: Can’t do, the option is grayed out.

Appreciate any advise.

I suggest you go to
Settings > Apps and then open the app’s storage settings in order to clear cache and storage.
This will remove from the app all data related to your account, so you’ll no longer receive mail with that app.
I would immediately reboot the phone.

Probably the best place for this sort of question related to /e/OS is

Thank you for the advise. However, even after clearing cache and storage, the account resurrects after restarting the app. Even if I delete the account, terminate the app, clear cache and storage, and reboot, the account resurrects, and gives new notifications.

Thanks for the pointer: this may be a duplicate of Can't delete default Mail app, or permanently remove default account - Applications - /e/OS community . For reference, the advise there is to turn off background notifications in the default email app’s settings. I will try that.

Well, that wasn’t really the idea … It’s probably best to only use one e-mail app. I can recommend FairEmail available on F-Droid.
