While using the on/off button, the volume knob is almost automatically operated. As a result, the phone goes on silent and calls are missed. Can the volume button be locked after setting it correctly?
Thanks for raising this. Fairphone 6 user @Fp6 reported exactly the same issue during our September meetup in Aachen. His assumption then was that it might happen more frequently with left-handers (if they are holding the phone with the right hand) like himself.
I’m a lefthander myself and had this problem also while operating my FP6 righthanded. After a while I tried to change my grip a bit and that worked. Basically the problem is the placement of the volume-buttons oposite to the power-button.

Your conluson, it is a mistake made in the design is correct. Thats why a option to block unintende use would be a nice solution. I am trying, of course, to change te use of the phone but that is not the solution.
Btw I am righthanded and hold the phone in my righthand.
As a lefthander I recognize this behaviour.
But, using the original fp cover one can push out the volume buttons.
These buttons are just clamped, and can be put back in place when required.
I already did this with the volume down button to prevent unwanted screenshots.

Hallo Urs,
habe gerade die Anfrage und Deine Antwort gelesen und wollte kurz mitteilen, wie ich dieses Problem derzeit z.T. gelöst bzw. umgangen habe.
Ich habe mir die App Button Mapper aus dem Play-Store geholt und damit die Laut/Leiser-Tasten „außer Funktion gesetzt“.
Danach habe ich mit aus den „Einstellungen“ des FP& die „Bedienungshilfen“ das Menü für Bedienungshilfen auf meinen Startbildschirm gelegt und kann jetzt dort mit dem grünen Lautsprecherbutton die Lautstärke steuern.
Was nicht geht, dass man einfach die Lautstärke „während“ z.B. eines Telefonates anpassen kann, wenn man z.B. in einer lautere Umgebung ist als sonst und ein Anruf reinkommt.
Dazu müsste man dann kurz das Telefon vom Ohr nehmen die Bedienungshilfe anwählen und den Lauterbutton betätigen.
Aber auch das geht natĂĽrlich 
Vielleicht macht es Sinn, Du verkürzt meine „Geschichte“ auf das Wesentliche und stellst es in den Chat.
Und eins ist ja klar: wer noch einen besseren Weg weiĂź, darf das gerne dann kundtun

A brief summary of @Fp6’s workaround for the time being:
- App “Button Mapper” allows to deactivate the volume buttons
- To still have the option to change the volume, activate
System settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Menu > Accessibility Menu shortcut
This will put a green button on the right margin of your screen. Tapping on the green button allows you to change the volume (and other settings) without the physical button.

You can also disable the shortcut on/off-button and the decreade volume button.
My phone is not in English so I’m not sure about the correct labels: go to the settings app → Sounds and Vibration → disable sound by buttons (8th option from bottom). You can disable it with the switch button or change it by clicking on the label to use the shortcut to switch to vibration or silent mode.
