Confusion in OS versions

I recently got my Fairphone 2. It comes preinstalled with Fairphone OS. The build number shows r4275.1_FP2_gms36_1.1.7, so I’m running Fairphone OS 1.1.7. At least, I thought so.

Then I go to Updater, which says that I am running “Onion 1.0”.

Then I go to advanced mode and tic “Android for Fairphone”. Is it correct to presume that this is the same as Fairphone OS, and not the stock Android with the minimal changes to make it work on Fairphone 2? It says “FAIRPHONE FP2-GMS36 1.1.7”.

Then if I tic this, I get the message that this very version is an older version (doesn’t say w.r.t. what):

Oudere versie
Fairphone FP2-gms36 1.1.7

Except for the case, the version string is the same as in the previous screen, but why am I apparently running an older version, and unable to update it to a recent version?

Finally, to make confusion even greater, I found topics referring to versions 1.7 and 1.8. So we have versions labelled as 1.0, 1.1.7 and 1.7. Do all these refer to the Fairphone OS? If so, is there any difference between Fairphone 1 and Fairphone 2?
