How much use is it getting in 15 hours? I guess time is only relevant if it’s sitting in your pocket.
Well for 8 to 9 hours I’m barely using it, the rest of the day I am listening to some music, checking my mails, replying to some messages, etc. All my connections except for WiFi are turned off.
Problem seems to be fixed for now, with some of kind of workaround.
I’ve removed the battery and put it back in. Then started charging when the phone was still turned off (using just a cable between phone and USB). I immediately saw the red charging light (This light did not started shining before, even when the battery symbol showed a lightning symbol).
After turning the phone back on, it continued charging.
So I shall always have to turn off the phone, or it was simply a defect connection of the battery.
I’ll update when problems reoccur.
I had also a charging problem in my car where I tried to charge my Fairphone 2 with USB. I have to try another cable and will write Feedback here.
At the moment I’m charging my phone with the cable I ordered together with my Fairphone 1.
This night the FP2 hangs up when it was connected with the charger and I had to remove the battery to get it working again.
Thank you all for the feedbacks, we are trying to understand what happens here.
This is rather hard to reproduce, I must say, but definitely on our radar.
I have set up a survey to gather all feedbacks on non-working facilities if you feel like detailing a bit more: https://podio.com/webforms/14713808/986025.
I’ve been searching for this link! Thanks a lot. Let’s try to help others to find it.
The link above is there to collect information about power supply adapters to see which are working with the FP2 and which are not.
In my case, these adapters have been tested with a variety of cables:
WORKING:
- LG Travel Adapter, Model MCS-01ER Output 5V/1.2A max
- Sunnybag PowerTAB, it’s a fancy power bank, really. Output 5V/2.4A max
- Any windows computer I plugged it in to
- Oneplus Adapter, Model S11C20. Output 5V, 2.1A max
- htc Adapter, Model TC E250. Output 5V, 1A max.
- Wiko Travel Charger Model: UD36A50100, Output 5V, 1A max
(mostly) NOT WORKING:
- Apple 10W USB Power Adapter, Model A1357. Output 5.1V/2.1A max (update: I found a charging-only cable which is working with the adapter)
- Voltcraft Cigarette Lighter Adapter, Model CPS-1500. Output 5V/1.5A max (update: It works with the same charging-only cable mentioned above)
The Cigarette Lighter Adapter frustrates me very much. I do use my phone a lot as a GPS and this consumes a shitload of power. I’ll have to check if the USB port on my radio charges my FP2. Its output current is 500mA, thanks for asking
I’ll make this list grow, by the way.
Thank you @hnms for the feedback but the survey is only for non-working charging facilities (so power supply + cable)!
We want to have feedback on those and see if we can spot a pattern.
A post is under preparation to gather which equipments are working well (and which are not). We’ll post the link here as well when it’s on the forum .
In your survey you are asking at question 3:
‘Power supply voltage deviation (percents)’.
If I can’t find such a number on the charger, what should I write down?
Wouldn’t it, exactly for the same reason, be a good idea to ask for working chargers as well?
Maybe you would discover that some chargers work for some people, but not for others. This would lead to other root causes that need to be investigated.
Nothing. The field is optional.
Should be clearer now.
I though to use the survey for only spotting the pattern with non-working facilities but I guess you are right and it would be better to actually gather as much structured data as possible. The survey has been updated.
Thank you for the correction .
Hi @borjan the survey still looks the same to me – i.e. only asking for devices not working.
To give some potentially useful feedback: I can charge my phone via the usb port of my desktop PC. A 2A/5V power supply, which i usually use to power a raspberry pi, does not work.
Here’s the interesting part: The (Front-)USB ports of my PC are set to still provide power when the PC is off (exactly for the purpose to charge, e.g., a phone ;)). But while every other device I tried keeps charging (or LED of usb stick stays on), the FP2 does not continue charging after I shut down my operating system.
– could that be related to the discussion above? 2 vs. 4 pins / data lines needed / …
Question 3 says now ‘Optional.’. So it is clear now, that there are chargers, which not state the percentage asked in question 3.
Hey. I was referring to the “information on all chargers (both working and non-working) should be gathered” part.
the survey is still only asking for the non-working ones…
Definitely right!
I updated the survey in the back-end but forgot to propagate the changes to the web-form. That’s fixed now.
The survey posted doesn’t fit for me. I have two problems:
- Charging on a turned on Windows PC’s USB-port doesn’t work. The charging symbol appears for short after plugging in and then disappears.
- Charging on a turned off PC’s USB-port doesn’t work (tried all ports). The charging symbol does not appear at all (low battery stays).
Both methods worked with my old smartphone, but it could have other power/current/voltage specifications.
The cable is not the problem. Tested two cables and both work with a power adapter and FP2.
@FeuRenard: Which USB-Mode did you set?
For me, the “charging only”-Option does NOT lead to any charging. But however, the other options (tested MTP and “mount SD card”) do lead to (slow, due to only 500 mA of charging current) charging.
[Tested with Win7 and Linux 4.3.0]
To select the USB-Option, connect your FP2 to PC and there should appear a notification when you swipe down from top (unlock phone before). Note that only one option can be active at a time.
Thanks for the hint! In MTP mode the turned on Windows PC charges my phone! It should be noted by Fairphone’s software team as a bug, that the Fairphone does not charge in “Charging mode”.
My FP2 charges in charging mode. With the many problems caused by not or semi-compatible cables I guess that’s a cable issue too.
Mine charges as well in the different modes, incl. the charging mode, so I also don’t see a bug here.
