my Fairphone 5 suddenly gave up charging normally. I put a new battery in but the phenomenon is still the same. With any cable, the phone reacts when I plug in, but stays at the charging level that it started with. But if I use the same cable to plug in a powerbank (instead of different wall sockets trying different plugs) charging is normal.
What’s going on? More importantly, what should I do to be able to charge my phone normally again?

Have you tried switching to ‘slow charge’ when charging with the charger? Perhaps that will help narrow down the fault. Have you cleaned the USB-port?
hi there, I would have no idea how to switch between fast and slow charging, but all options that I use seem to be slow charging (it’s what my phone is telling me). But in the wall the phone bleeps when attached to the usb and it says that it’s charging (slowly) but it doesn’t. Though I’ve now found a plug that actually does charge, only extremely slow.
I’ve taken the usb port out, checked for any form of dirt (none) and put it back in. Made no difference. I’m careful not to poke around in it as I’m a bit clumsy… Anyway thanks for the battery charging mode, I’ve changed it to the ecosetting.
You will not see compressed dirt, before you poke.
I’d say: if you’ve managed to take everything apart and put it back together again, you’re definitely not all that clumsy!
Die you try a different charger? If it works with the powerbank with your normal cable, I think the fault lies with the charger.
I tried several chargers and cables, only the powerbank works
What kind of chargers? Old ones or meant to charge low power devices?

in my case it was the USB-Port. With a new one it is working again.
I had a look at the way USB-C is handeling the charging. For the higher power charging it is using several pins - not only one for + and one for ground ( A4/B4 und A9/B9 and ground on A1/B1 und A12/B12). So as long there at least somehow one pin for power and one for ground out of the 4 each working it can charge slow.
It seems USB port is a little bit unstable - FP tells on its webside it can be dammaged by a drop of the phone easily :-(.
But at least for 20€ I got a new USB-C Port from FP and now its fully working agin.

Thanks I might invest another twenty euros on top of the new battery that didnt help, but Im beginning to wonder if it could be a software issue. It happened quite suddenly and the success or failure of charging seems very erratic.
I have to agree: clean the USB port first. If that doesn’t help, replace the USB module.
I have the exact same problem. I tried everything, different chargers, different cables etc and then I bought a new USB module. It was worthless because nothing changed… I don’t know what to do anymore..
Are you sure the connection cable inside is well attached?
What type of USB cable you are using ? A to C or C to C ? In case of A to C the powerbank or wall plug should deliver 5V. C to C are able to charge using higher voltages.
No I’m not because I wouldn’t know how to check. But it seems my phone charges now, slow but it gets there. In my case the trick seemed to be to tell the phone to only charge slow.
I think this is what solved the problem: changing the settings to slow charge. Thank you!
