Charge and use wired headphones at the same time

Is it possible to use wired headphones during charging of FP6?

What kind of accessory should I look for to make it work?

Have a look at ✏ FP4 List of USB-C to 3.5 Audio jack adapter . IIRC some of the adapters have both jack output and power input. That’s what you’re looking for. However, when doing that, I’d really watch temperature of the adapter. I have the jack-only one and when playing music over it, it gets pretty hot.

I browsed the list there but relevant link seems to be dead already. Anything from FP shop?

Ah, okay… In the worst case, you can have a look at notebook docking stations. They can definitely charge and some have a jack.

You need something similar to this:

With interface for 3,5mm jack for headphones and USB-C port for charging.
There are also some smaller versions without the housing around the ports, just cables.

No commercial, just the first example I’ve found.

I was looking for something like this a while back. Unfortunately the reviews for all the adapters that I found were really bad. As in they stopped working after a couple of weeks or never really worked. So I guess make sure to read the reviews first?

(I solved my use case with an aux-to-bluetooth adapter because I just needed this to work in my car with an old radio.)

I am using this one here: Bphuny USB-C Headphone Adapter and Charging USB Type C to 3.5 mm Aux Audio Adapter Hi-Res DAC Support 60 W Quick Charge Compatible with Samsung Galaxy S22 S21 iPad Air 5/Pro 2021, Pixel 6/5xl: Amazon.de: Electronics & Photo

However it is not available anymore. Temperature is ok even while charging, and the sound performance is pretty good. My Fiio BTR5 2021 is still doing better IMO in sound performance, both with BT and wired but of course it lacks the charging option when being used wired as DAC.

Or you can go with BAA 100 | Buxton . That’s my solution. I didn’t like the idea of it before I bought it, but I quickly reconsidered and now I absolutely love it. It gives you so much freedom while retaining wired headphones. You just need to charge it from time to time.

Similar to @peci1 , I’ve switched to using an external Dac to connect my wired headphones, rather than a dongle that physically connects to the phone (tried a handful of those, they were all fragile, bad quality and fiddly).

I use the Snowsky Retro Nano and while it looks deceptively cute, it is very functional and sounds fantastic!

Downside is that it does need to be charged, like any external Dac… But this one has an easily exchangeable battery.

Some of those BT DACs you can use wired and wireless. Like my Fiio BTR5 2021 for example. Then of course you’ll loose the option to charge your phone in parallel.

Anyway I usually prefer the wireless option for the same reasons as @Booksniffer and because it gives you a significant extra degree of freedom

Ah yes, the Retro Nano can also be used wired, I think - haven’t tried that yet!

I am using this one for some years now. The audio quality is awesome and it support PD for fast charging.

Thank you, this one looks the best.

Seems not available in my country… Any suggestion for a shop that has it and ships to Europe?

I don’t think your country only, I think it’s sold out in general. I also found this gadget introduced by @Switch very interesting, but unfortunately I couldn’t find it anywhere.

Maybe that’s something that fairphone could add to their shop, at least as long as they do mobiles without mini-jack…

Damn, I didn’t notice. That’s a shame :frowning: it is/was pretty good.

I found it at Sharkoon Mobile DAC PD, Soundkarte and can confirm it works with FP6
