on my Fairphone 5 I am using SMS very seldom, but it always worked normally. But after the latest updates, I cannot send SMS anymore. I can still receive SMS. But when I try send SMS, I receice the error message “Network is not ready. Try again”. But my Sim card is active. What could be the reason for this network error - and what could be a possible solution?

What messaging app you are using? Google?
I noticed they recently were really pushing for RCS chats as default - what are your settings?
The reason I am asking is that it might be connected with data transfer. Are you using two sims or one?
I am using Google Messages. I don’t have RCS chats active. Usually I am using one sim, but I can also activate a second sim.
So if one SIM, I can assume the SIM you want to send an SMS from, has the data on enabled as a preferred SIM?
The reason why I am asking, when using two SIMs and SIM A being the first one for data, I am usually unable to send (but sometimes also receive) MMS messages from the other SIM (SIM B).
Plus your error message also suggests network issues.. Have you checked APN and other data related functions on that SIM?
Could you check some other messages app to see whether that makes any difference?
SIM A is “On / Default for mobile date, calls, SMS”. APN is on “internet”. “Mobile data” is on. Unfortunately I don’t have other SIM related messages apps on my phone.
I am using Fossify Messages, you can just download it from PlayStore for troubleshooting.
I cannot fully recommend it due to issues with MMS, but for troubleshooting of SMS sending it might do.
I have installed Fossify Messages, and it works fine. Thank you very much!
Fortunately I am not sending MMS. I am happy with SMS as long as I can send them with Fossify Messages.
