I have a Fairphone 4. The display is broken. I have bought a new display for the Fairphone 4. However, it does not fit the display that is installed. The old display is glued, the new display is supposed to be screwed.
That’s not possible unless somebody (a previous owner?) has glued it in the past. What exactly is glued to what?
See here for more info
Have you removed the complete display unit?
Your description sounds like only the glass layer detached from the display unit, but the remainder of the unit is still on your phone.
When you connect the new display, make sure to properly align the connector to its socket. See the “To reconnect” advice here: Recognizing & Disconnecting Cable Connectors - iFixit Repair Guide
To reconnect, align the connector carefully over its socket and press down with your fingertip—first on one of the short sides, then the other—until it clicks into place. Don’t try to force the connector into place. If you’re having trouble, reposition it and try again.
- Don’t press down on the middle of wider connectors until they’re fully seated. If misaligned, the connector or the pins underneath can bend or break, causing permanent damage.
I have read all these descriptions about the display replacement and watched various videos. If I follow these descriptions, there are 2 differences between the descriptions and my Fairphone:
-
The cable of the display and the connector / socket is always visible and you can unplug the cable. On my Fairphone, the socket is covered and the cable disappears under a white cover.
-
The new display has two black pins with internal thread at the corners and two white pins without thread on the long sides. These are missing on my old display.
Tonight I will take photos with my girlfriend’s phone, where the differences will be clearly visible. Is my description explanatory enough? Please ask follow-up questions, I am happy to answer them.
The image on iFixit, step 12 … here the difference is clearly visible. The socket and connector are visible … on mine, the cable disappears under the white cover.
it was a very very new fairphone 4 and I am the only owner.
Did you buy second hand? I assume someone tried to apply some foam to reduce ghost touches
No … It was a new Fairphone 4
Interesting, maybe because of the Ghost Touch issues FP themselves tried the foam patch fix… The ifixit video was def produced earlier
Bought 16.05.2022 galaxus germany
Is there any way to contact Fairphone directly so that they can send me the correct display?
Hi,
If you followed the iFixit procedure correctly you should see the screw sockets at the back of your old display as you find it at step 12 in the first picture at the right side. If you don’t see it, the frame of the display is still seated in the main frame of the FP4 and you separated the display glass from the frame with the plektrum. If you did unscrew all 8 screws as described in step 6, it should be possible to separate the display frame from the main frame with the plektrum and the connector should be visible.
Greets Robert
To confirm it’s the correct part or not please post a photo of the spare display and of your phone at the stage where you think it doesn’t fit.
Unless you have ordered the wrong part, chances are small that they’ve sent the wrong part, but of course it’s not impossible.
Good morning Robert, I think that is exactly my problem. The phone fell down and damaged the display, however in such a way that it could also be slightly lifted at the corner. So I used this phone for two weeks and then the display came off while I was making a phone call. It could therefore be exactly as you described, namely that the display has detached from the frame and now I simply need to open the Fairphone again and look carefully at where I can use the plectrum to detach the frame.
Hallo JĂĽrgen,
Vom Namen her denke ich du sprichst deutsch, richtig?
Judging by your name, I assume you speak German, correct? One more tip: if you don’t unscrew the last of the eight screws that need removing all the way, lift the FP4 up slightly and then press down on the screw with the screwdriver, the display frame should lift out of the main frame, allowing you to slide the pick in between. Then remove the last screw and use the pick to lift out the old display and frame. Don’t let it fall out, so as not to damage the display connector. Then continue as described in step 13 of the iFixit guide.
Regards, Robert

Servus Robert,
vielen Dank für den Tipp. Ich werde das heute Nachmittag probieren, aber wie ich schon geschrieben habe, ist das bestimmt die Lösung meines Problems![]()
Ich werde von meinem Versuch berichten…
Hi Robert,
Thanks a lot for the tip. I’ll give it a go this afternoon, but as I’ve already said, I’m sure that’s the solution to my problem![]()
I’ll let you know how it goes…

Now i am keen to know the solution. I do not speak German. Why switch languages at the end?
The general rule is to keep the language consistent during any given topic.
Here the advice given in German seems to be the repeated version of the previously given one (as far as I can tell, I do not speak German unfortunately
)
I translated the last two comments in English, to make it easier for others to follow.
@juergen1, could you let us know [also] in English whether the solution worked?
Sorry fĂĽr switching language, Meaghan. I was answering to juergen1 assuming it was a PM to me. My mistake ![]()

Hello everyone,
thank you very much for your kind and friendly support. I also want to apologize for switching languages. Now I know that and I will stick to it.
Hello Robert, your tip was exactly right. Remove the frame, disconnect the cable, put everything back together with the new display… abracadabra, I have a new Fairphone ![]()
I wish you all a lovely day…
