Out of curiosity I wanted to remove the battery on my FP6. I followed the step on the iFixIt youtube video but when I plugged the battery back and boot my phone, I now have have a blue battery indicator and just a few seconds after that the phone shuts down after showing a “shutting down now…”
If I plug my phone to the charger,it refuse to boot even when holding the power button more than 10 seconds
- I purchased the phone back in July 2025
I am running Android 15
No SD card
Here is a video to demonstrate the issue
as @LeGerald mentioned - right after booting up to the OS, battery indicator is blue and about 2-3 seconds later phone powers off
when the phone is plugged to the charger, it refuses to react to any button combination
when I plug a charger while the phone is booting it turns off instantly (like I’d unplug a power cord from a PC)
phone’s recovery, bootloader and fastboot mode is available and can be there for hours (without plugging the USB cable)
data wipe (factory reset) from recovery menu doesn’t fix the issue
I thought that maybe I damaged battery port on the sysboard or battery plug, but I see no issue here - I had an opportunity to check this under a microscope and see no physical issue.
It looks like my phone wasn’t even ready for a trivial battery replacement.
I’ve just received my new FP6. When I start the device, I get through the FP logo, and then to either the startup wizard, the SIM pin (if a SIM is installed) or just a “Just a sec…” message. There’s a blue battery symbel on the top right of the screen. Within less than a second, phone goes to “shutting down” and turns off. Plugging in a charger (I tried three different ones with three different cables) does not do anything; screen does not light up, phone does not vibrate, battery does not charge.
What is the problem here and what can I do? Phone is bought from a reputable dealer and did seem undisturbed (as in, not having been returned by a prior customer).
Hi @valII and welcome to our community forum. I’ve allowed myself to merge your standalone topic with this one (which you already found yourself). Let’s hope there will be some update from the others.
Hello @valII
I am not sure whether indeed it is the same situation as the original poster had been using the phone for a few months before opening it and reassembling the battery.
From what I understood you have not done such a thing.
I’ve contacted the real person live chat today. While they have very short and (for me) inconvienient working hours (only two hours per day, and they are during typical European work and North American sleeping hours, not on weekends), they were very nice and helpful.
According to them, replacement seems like the only option right now. Which is a bit of a shame, but these things happen, and the fact that there’s very little info online on this specific issue, it seems to be quite a rare one.
I went to the seller’s after-sales service and returned my phone on October 1, as it was still under warranty.
The phone was sent later to Fairphone for diagnosis.
On October 17, I went to pick up my phone. The seller told me that it had been replaced with a brand new one.
In the end, neither Fairphone nor I know what the problem was or how to fix it.
Note: The protective screen I had on my old phone was replaced with a “privacy” screen.
I also wait for a replacement but I am not that lucky as I still wait for a shipping label to send my broken phone back. It takes much more time than I expected…
On Monday I finally received replaced phone. And similar to @LeGerald case - they sent me wrong screen protection, but after contacting FP by chat, a correct glass was sent.
For the others and for the future - Contacting FP by chat seem to be much better way than sending an e-mail.
