Hello. Is it possible that you cover the proximity sensor when you are swiping down? It’s on the right side of the selfie camera, directly above the screen. Try swiping more on the right side (closer to the battery icon) or on the left side of the screen.

That was indeed the problem. Can I disable that functionality?
Not in the default Phone app. Maybe using a different dialer app. But note that you would have to manually turn off the screen (using the power button) if you move the phone to your ear, othewise it would stay on.
