I have the same problem. Battery is draining very fast, phone does not enter deep sleep
Even in airplane mode?
I would try the same thing but in airplane mode and see what happens.
An update:
I opened a ticket with Fairphone Support. They asked me to factory reset the phone and then check if the same problem happened. That is something that at the moment is too much logistics for me (I need the phone up and running for work and personal stuff).
I told them this and they asked me to send a bug report. However, after 1-2 weeks, they said thet couldn’t help me further and I should try the factory reset.
They also mentioned that more people with the problem should open a ticket with Support.
I am now thinking if I will prepare for a factory reset. In the meantime I keep trying to remember to turn BT off every time I use it. Sometimes I do manage to remember and my battery doesn’t go to waste!
Did you run it some time in Safe mode? That deactivates all third party apps and if its gone in safe its an app you installed
33% network activity when in flight mode doesn’t seem right either! I am on Android16 with mine and can go two days without charging without activating flight mode.
I’ve just come back to the forum. I charge my phone to 80% only and this morning it has kind of just been sitting here and by noon it was at 52%.
I compared the Battery usage > View by Systems on the Fairphone against a Google Pixel 8 Pro. Fairphone: Mobile Network - 52% usage since last charge.
For the Pixel, this is not even its own category and the top use is, as you would expect, CPU and the Display.
Somehow I missed that suggestion. Thanks for the reminder.
I did that last night. The phone stayed in flight mode for the entire night with BT on and the battery drained 18%. I think this confirms it is a system isse, not any third-party app. After restarting the phone, on normal mode, I opened BetterBatteryStats and saw the same issue: no deep sleep and the same two processes (890000.qcom,qup_uart and hal_bluetooth_lock) in the Kernel Wakelocks.
I will answer in the open support ticket, let’s see if they do anything with this information.
After stumbling upon this post yesterday, I turned Bluetooth off.
Scenario yesterday:
Minimum device usage, charged to 80%, unplugged around 8:30am. By noon, 52% charge left.
Scenario today: similar usage BUT Bluetooth OFF, unplugged around 8:30am with 80% charge, at 2:15pm 74% charge left.
@Fairphone_CM do you prefer individual support tickets or is this something that could be looked at for the next software update based on feedback here?
jumping in to say that the forum feedback is not seen as the official communication channel and monitored as such
so I would suggest submitting a ticket
I’ll use the new US support and see how that goes ![]()
Edit: A work in progress. @Fairphone_CM from the US it let me only selecht the Fairphone 6+ as the device i own, but when i selected Reseller instead of US reseller, it asked for my color and only offered green, white and black and then the only resellers and operators i could choose were EU ones and it happily accepted the 6 IMEI. It allowed me to succesfully submit the ticket though ![]()
Yes, anybody who also runs into this issue should submit a ticket. That increases the importance of this issue in the Fairphone Support team.
I’m also running into this issue. Also experiencing ±25% drain overnight all of a sudden. No idea what has changed recently.
After reading this thread I checked and realized my Bluetooth is on when in airplane mode. Curious whether I’m experiencing the same amount of battery drain tonight. I’ll report back.
Probably opening a ticket. Again. Also experiencing the wifi issue, this phone is pretty bug ridden. sigh..
I wish there was an option to turn BT off and on with the switch.
First do a reboot, second run it in safe mode dic:safemode over night.
I recently had issues for a few days despite rebooting. It did not happen in safemode, thus it was any app. For me its gone for now.
The problem of battery drainage does not always happen for me when I leave my BT on. When I tested in safemode I did manage to replicate the same battery drainage. That made me think it is a system issue. I would be curious if you could test a couple of times more to see if you can replicate the issue also in safe mode. In my experience, not having the issue for 1 night does not mean the issue does not exist at all.
The steps I followed when I did the test in safe mode (and got the same battery drainage) were:
- Turn safemode on
- Connect to my BT headphones and play some music (done through the browser since no apps are available in safe mode)
- Turn off my headphones, so that they loose connection
- Turn on airplane mode, making sure the BT stays on
- Leave the phone the whole night in this state
I also had battery drain and no deep sleep. Furthermore I had bad wifi in my home network. I changed the 5 GHz channel to 36, removed and reconnected the existing wifi connection on my fp. Wifi is better now, deep sleep works again and battery drain is gone.
To find out what exactly locks the phone, prevents deep sleep and consumes power BBS reloaded is the tool of choice. The phone setups are so different with different kind of BT hardware, different apps and so on, that there won’t by the one solution for all.
Thanks Lars, I have indeed used BBS Reloaded to check and found that the culprit are two system processes 890000.qcom,qup_uart and hal_bluetooth_lock as we have already discussed before (see post 29 in this thread). When I looked into the BT logs, I could not figure out what is calling the BT, just that it is happening much more often (see post 38 in this thread).
After this step I am at a loss. I don’t have the knowledge to figure out what forces the BT calls. And again, Fairphone support told me they could not help me even when I sent the logs and bug report at their request.
You could try to disable one app after the other of that you know it is using BT and see with which app the power usage is higher.
