First : still no reply from Fairphone Support. Not even a sign of life. Do they have a Support division?
So : I was thinking to bring my FP back to the shop, for a repair under guarantee.
But : I removed and logged out of some accounts so the technicians do not have access to my data. I kept all the apps, but just logged out or deleted user-data.
And then suddenly everything is possible : I can keep open up to 8 apps in the background, podcasts keep playing even when I take pictures, switching between these 8 apps brings me back to where I left them. Bizarre! I can not reproduce the problems we had.
I am puzzled, what should I do now ?
Finally got around to figuring out how to send a support ticket as well - 1275609, for the benefit of any support people in the audience. I linked this thread in my ticket as well.
+1 for the same issues with apps reloading when switching. Fairphone 5 with 6GB Ram purchased in October 2024 and from day 1 I have had this issue sadly.
Assume no luck with replies from Fairphone support for those who raised tickets?
I have also raised a Support ticket today, reference: 1278173
And I have finally sold my FP5, it was making me too nervous. Iām using my good old Sony again⦠Good luck ladies and gentlemen, I hope someone at Fairphoneās can solve this problem for you
The inaction and silence of support worries me much more than this RAM management problem. I regret my purchase of the FP5 more and more⦠it will be my last I think.
Itās a shame because the initial initiative is interesting and deserves support. But I have the impression that for the past few months, it has been mainly supported by customers on this forum. Since I bought this FP5, I havenāt seen a single positive feedback on the customer service, which is completely absent. Itās sad.
Has anyone tried if installing a different os solves the problem like I know Ubuntu mobile has support for Fairphone 5, but never tried it as some of the apps I like are not compatiblez but if it solves it it could be interesting
Did this happen even on Android 14? Or did this behavior start only after the A15 update?
Isnāt both the Fairphone 4 still on android 13 and the 5 on 14?
Oh, I have FP4 and I somehow thought that FP5 already has A15ā¦
But anyways. Didnāt this happen after the 13->14 transition?
Seems that this problem is highly correlated with the one I have with dynamic wallpaper: Dynamic wallpaper (Muzei) is replaced by default one after a while
Hello, same problem for me here, I hope weāll find a solution quickly
Did you open a support ticket, by any chance?
Unfortunately, this thread has been open since January, and the first time someone mentioned contacting Fairphone about it was in March:
Itās been a wee bit more than 16-18 days, as far as I know, itās been complete radio silence, and I donāt currently have the bandwidth to figure out if there are any other appropriate ways to contact them about this.
In the meantime, theyāve released a whole new model, which I would feel a lot better about if the phone I bought for the sustainability and long-term support angle wasnāt currently nigh unusable, impossible to get support for less than a year after buying it, and ironically about to set a record for the shortest Iāve ever owned a phone, if there continues to be no solution to this by the time my life quietens down enough to switch phones again.
I write this on my dirty, unfair samsung : i felt the same as you do. This fairphone is how I want a phone to be : repairable, clean and made fair. But it has to work. And it didn“t. So I sold it and bought another phone. Which works like a charm. A happy end but it leaves a bitter taste.
And all this is because of the poor/unexisting support by Fairphone. If they had just let me know, “ hey we“re sorry, a little patience, we“re working on it“ , I would have been loyal. But it has to come from both sides.
This issue of reloading apps and bad memory/cache management is really getting on my nerves⦠A feedback from the Fairphone tech team would be appreciated. Is it taken into account? Will there be a fix? When approx?
I can confirm that the issue still persists with the new Android 15 Update. Also since then, my home and lock screen background keeps resetting, which could be related.
I havenāt gotten around to factory resetting to see if this fixes it.
Oh dear, I was hoping for Android 15. Still no news from the support team.
@Fairphone team, will there be a fix for the bad memory management issue (e.g. Reloading apps when switching) that many of us are facing (open ticket and forum) ?
This is a users forum. Occasionely Fairphone workers are reading here.
But donāt count on it or expect an answer from Fairphone here.
Iām intrigued by the possible association of this problem with āhome and lock screen background resetā phenomenon.
Have any people affected by either, tried setting one wallpaper for the Lock screen and a different one for the Home screen?
This has been found to help with the background reset problem and might help with the memory management.
