Android 14 is here. Here's what's changed - FP5.UT20.B.041.20240624

Thank you for your reply, Jerome! Now I’m reassured I’m not the only client from Proximus who hasn’t got the update. I’ll wait, since I read it is indeed the service network provider’s “fault” (@Nabalazs, so not Fairphone to blame).

End of August I guess and why they are “behind” was explained quite detailed in the past…

Yeah… i am going to say it again.

Why does security updates need to be bundled with non-security updates???

The whole point of monthly security updates is that you get just the security updates each month then (lets say an update to a new android version) feature updates later (or whenever its ready…)

another person with Proximus here, also haven’t seen any update

My phone started to download UT27.B.059 (camera improvements and August 24 security patch level).
Maybe you’ll get directly the new version.

For the new update, please follow-up here

Still no update here either (on MobileVikings, a Proximus subcompany). A ticket to fairphone support has been unanswered for 5 days.

When I click on software updates Then it says checking for updates but then it says your system is up to date

Hi and welcome, moved your post here, please see above as well. Who is your provider?

My phone was purchased on the fairphone site

That does not matter really, so who is the provider of your SIM card?

My provider is proximus .

So you will see above that there are others reporting this and best is to contact Fairphone Support.

Is it because my fp5 has a sim card from proximus

Yes.

Mobile network providers tend to greenlight updates only after checking for possible incompatibilities with their network. Results and processing times differ, but, complex as tech is, incompatibilities really can arise, and should of course better get sorted out before hitting users of the provider.

Following that logic, no other user on the Proximus network should have Android 14 as well? Or no other phone coming with Android 14 preinstalled should be used on the proximus network? Or there is really a guy at proximus testing every new combination of phones and versions? I find that very hard to believe.
I find it more stunning that I receive no fairphone support answer at all …
If someone can point me to the manual update procedure (without losing data), I’m more than happy to try it. I downloaded the Android 14 image from fairphone but it contained no update procedure that didn’t destroy my data.
Btw, I did find https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/18896094650513-Install-Fairphone-OS-manually#01HB8ZHQPQP1SPFFG3VM0Q09EX , but the android 14 zip for fairphone 5 doesn’t contain a file called " ./sideload_update.command`"
Ok, apparently FP4 and FP5 can only be flashed to the new android 14, causing you to lose all data. Is there a procedure to backup/restore the data then?

I had this issue on FP3 long ago (Vodafone NL back then). Bought a TMO prepaid SIM, inserted it, and poof got the software update. Then swapped back the sim. Cost me 5 EUR. Of course, there’s a risk…

The infamous trick I was talking about a few messages earlier :smiling_imp:
Without having to buy a SIM card, just borrow one from your family, colleagues or any random stranger in the street :joy:
